I applied for a new job and I was invited for an interview. Lets just say I applied the job in anger. Well of course, anticipating the interview day, I contemplated if I should even go for the interview. I mean no one really understand as to why I am in this organization. Probably here is the best time for me to explain.
- I am taking my degree, This job allows me to do more for my studies and gives me more time to concentrate even better( well maybe at times, not all)
- I can take leave / MCs without people breathing down my neck.
FYI, This April 4th will be my fourth year with CO.
Back to the interview, I sat in a meeting room opposite three people who potentially will be able to give me better pay and progression in my career. Let’s just call this people as mat tie, mat selekeh, and mina sepet. Below is a modified transcript of the interview.
Mat selekeh: Hi Zainah, thanks for coming down for an interview. Y are u applying this job?
Me : Erm, I want to get better pay and move on with my life rather than being stagnant at my current position.
Mat tie: What skills do u possess that will be essential for this position
Me: Other than having a brain, I believe one must possess good acting skills. All of us put a front when we meet new people, Similar to the situation that we are going through rite now.
Mat tie: I see, That explains as to why u are smiling and nodding each time we talk, to make it seem like u interested
Me: Nah, this is a habit, Abit hard to dissolve this. Next qn
Mina sepet: I see u indicated dreamweaver in your technical skills categories, You have experience in designing?
Me: Well I had 6 months training, will that count as experience? I take instructions very well. For example, A comes before B and C comes after B. However I have bad color coordination since primary school so I try to stay away from colours.
Mat selekeh: Your cv indicates u can speak mandarin?
Me: (Trying to impress them, I tried to speak Mandarin ) the key word is TRIED *zye shakes head
Mat selekeh: How is your work relations at the current workplace?
Me: With the people I have no problems except for one. Long story, once I get the job I will share ok? ( Crazy, U tink I am going to tell )
Mat selekeh: What weakness do u possess?
Me: i get sympathetic with people easily.
Mat tie: That is not a weakness.
Me: Yes, It is. If you are me.
Mat tie: Are u married ?
Me: What has that got to do with interview ?!!!!?
Mina Sepet: OK……. I have someone else coming at 11 for the next interview, we will call u if u are selected . U are not in any hurry to find a new job rite ?
Me : Nope, can I leave now ??
At the end of it, I gave me best shot. I was really trying out. Practice run before the actual deal
